Workers’ Compensation in Grand Rapids and Northern Minnesota

What To Know About Wage Loss Benefits And How They Work

If you have been injured on the job, you are entitled to wage loss benefits through Minnesota’s workers’ compensation system. Simply put, these are payments which partially replace the wages you were earning before your injury.

Despite a workers’ compensation system created to promptly and fairly provide coverage to injured workers, wage loss benefits are often more difficult to obtain than they should be. But working with the right lawyer can make a big difference. At Bradt Law Offices, we have been advocating for injured workers in Northern Minnesota for 35 years. We have helped hundreds of your friends and neighbors, and we can help you, too.

Minnesota Wage Loss Benefits

There are three basic types of wage loss benefits available under Minnesota workers’ compensation:

  1. Temporary Total Disability benefits (TTD) – These are benefits paid to someone who is off work completely because of a work injury. Generally, they receive two-thirds of their gross weekly wage.
  2. Temporary Partial Disability benefits (TPD) – These are partial wage loss benefits paid to someone who is working after an injury, with physical restrictions, and earning less than on the date of injury. In general, they receive two-thirds of the difference between what they used to earn and what they are earning now.
  3. Permanent Total Disability benefits (PTD) – These are benefits paid to someone who is off work completely because of a work injury and is permanently unemployable. These people generally receive two-thirds of the gross weekly wage they were earning when the injury happened.

It is important that injured workers receive all of the wage loss benefits they are entitled to, especially if they are no longer able to work in any job. Talking with an experienced lawyer about your specific case will help you understand how the law will apply to you.
